Moturoa lifted the Duchess Cup at Merrilands wth a 1-0 win over a talented Waitara today. The goal came midway through the second half, a well struck shot from striker Katherine Phipps which crashed into the net. Moturoa were good value for their win, they defended strongly, presented Waitara with few chances and were a constant threat on the break. But Waitara were left wondering what might have been. Aside from two clear chances missed in the second half, the side dominated for long periods with possession football. The team in black was often guilty of taking a safe option rather than trying a through ball. The quality of the football on show was well appreciated by a vocal crowd on a chilly and windy September morning. This was a fine advertisement for women's football. The New Plymouth Rangers camera was on hand to capture some of the action and you can see more of these pics on our facebook page. Thanks to Nigel, John, Tracy, Kelly, Monty and Roy for volunteering and running the club today.
