Rangers make the step up to the Women's Federation League

New Plymouth Rangers will have a women’s Federation League team in 2021, playing in the higher leagues for the first time in a long time. Our women’s team has been steadily improving and over the last few years have established themselves as one of the top teams in the local Taranaki league. This year Rangers will have two women’s teams, one competing in the Federation League and one in the local Premier League. Leading the squad is Andrew Moore who has been coaching for many years and has experience recently coaching the Taranaki girls rep teams. Assisting him are Tony Kleinsman and Richard Hales, as well as the coaching team at Rangers including Director of Football James Malthus.

Club Chairman Monty Ammundsen was stoked with the development stating "this is a big step for our club but one that fits nicely with our strategic direction and the pathways we are creating". Moore has ties to the club through his son Ben who has had two stints in the top team and also through Kendal who will be one of the players stepping up. Moore says "we have the core of a good team but will be looking for more players to add into the squad to add strength and depth". Pre season provides a great opportunity for any player in Taranaki that is looking to improve, develop and test themselves against the best in the central and lower North Island and Moore is open to players trialing to see how they enjoy it. "We know Moturoa women's team have done well in this league over previous seasons and we will look to provide some home town competition for them which in the long run will only be beneficial for football in Taranaki"

With the Fifa Women's World Cup coming to New Zealand in 2023 this is a prime time to create better systems and ensure that young females can see a pathway from grassroots to the very top if they so desire. Rangers are putting in the hard yards through key partnerships with Ole Football Academy and James Malthus, are striving to meet this demand.

Rangers invites any women interested in being involved in a young dynamic squad for either Fed or Prem level to get in touch with us at admin@nprangers.co.nz, fill out the expression of interest form here https://www.nprangers.co.nz/expression or message us on Facebook. The first training will be on Wednesday the 3rd of February at 6pm
